I think it's time for Ashley to meet my parents.
I'm fortunate enough to a) like my parents and b) live near my parents, so it feels right to introduce her now that we've been dating almost two months and the future is looking promising. We're having dinner at my parents' house this weekend, and while I'm really excited, Ashley is kind of freaking out over it. I've tried to convince her that she has nothing to be nervous about and that my parents will love her. But that's not what I'm worried about. My biggest fear is that my mom will fall in love with the girl.
This happened to me in high school when my mom basically thought of my then-girlfriend as her daughter. As we started to grow apart, Mom continued to invite her over for family functions and acted as if our relationship would last forever. Our breakup was completely amicable. The hardest part was dealing with my mom's grief over losing a pseudo member of the family. Thankfully, Mom has learned to keep her distance and wait at least until an engagement to fully inaugurate a girlfriend of mine (or boyfriend of my sister) into the family. Let's hope she remembers that this weekend because I'm sure she'll LOVE Ashley.
