We had a meeting yesterday to discuss shooting for the next part of the documentary series, and I was disappointed when I learned the timing.
Ben has an annual outdoor adventure weekend with a bunch of his college friends every September. As he describes it, they "drink beer and climb mountains, not necessarily in that order." It's been scheduled for months for the weekend of the 25th, and we've both been hoping that my two-week trip to New Orleans would end up being either before or after that trip. No such luck. I leave the 20th and come back October 1st, which means Ben can't come join me for the weekend in between. I walked to get an iced coffee after the meeting and called him on the way.
"It's not the worst thing in the world, K.," he said. "You're probably going to have to do at least some work that weekend, anyway."
He had a point.
"What if I go up the Friday before, the 17th?" I suggested. "You could come with me and we could spend the weekend together."
"If it were any other weekend, I would," he said. "But the board is coming in that Monday for a meeting, and we have a huge presentation to put together."
"Booo," I said.
"We can live without each other for two weeks," he said. "We'll talk every night. We can even set up our web cams and talk to each other face-to-face."
"Hm," I said, starting to feel better about the whole thing. "There are some fun web-cam possibilities we could explore."
"You read my mind," he said, and I could hear the smile in his voice. "You and Mandy are going to take turns on these, right? So you won't have to go for every one?"
"Right," I assured him. "Unless we have two going simultaneously. But when we start winning Emmys and get famous and stuff, then you can quit your job and travel with me full-time. All I ask is that you pleasure me on-demand."
"I've always dreamed of being a kept man," he mused.
"You could have, you know. Easily. You really played your cards wrong getting mixed up with me, instead of some rich old lady who probably wouldn't have even expected much in the way of sex."
"Damn, you're right," he joked. "I'm going to have to give this some thought while you're away."
We got off the phone, making plans to meet up at his place later that night. When I arrived, he was in a towel, still wet from a post-gym shower. I was woefully overdressed, so I remedied that situation immediately, and then relieved him of his towel.
"I couldn't trade this in for a rich old lady," he said as we snuggled afterward. "Well, unless she was REALLY rich."
I bit his shoulder.
"Ow!" he said. "You know, my sugar mama Gladys takes out her teeth at night, so she couldn't bite me even if she wanted to
